A Day of Winter Magic at Lapland Winter Park

I visited the newly opened Lapland Winter Park in Rovaniemi and had a wonderful experience. I received complimentary tickets as part of collaboration, and I purchased tickets for the additional activities on-site.

Park is still developing and adapting to early-season snow conditions, it already offers a great variety of activities and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Getting There

We used the park’s complimentary shuttle bus, which departed from the city center (Poromiehentie 4, close to shopping centre Rinteekulma) at 12:15 PM.

The ride was short, just about 15 minutes, and very convenient. At the end of the day, the same bus brought us back to the city at 5:00 PM – all included in the ticket price.

Activities in the Main Park

The main park offered a variety of activities, many of which are included in the entry ticket. Here’s what we experienced:

  • Rovaniemi’s longest snow slide: While it was really fun, the slope was quite gentle. The warm weather and limited early-season snow have likely made it challenging to build a steeper hill.

  • Carousel sled (napakelkka): A delightful and entertaining ride that had me laughing out loud.

  • Marshmallow roasting: For €3 there is marshmallows for sale, or you can bring your own. We enjoyed toasting marshmallows over an open fire in a cozy ‘kota’ hut.

  • Reindeer: The park features its own reindeer enclosure, where visitors can feed the reindeer and interact with them.

Other activities, such as ice-skating, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing, were available, but I didn’t have time to try them all. Looked really fun tho!

  • Ice Karting.
    • For an extra dose of adrenaline, my husband tried ice-karting (€69 for 30 minutes). He enjoyed very much, and was laughing for full half-hour.

The Highlight: Sauna World

The absolute standout of our visit was the Sauna World, a luxurious and authentic Finnish sauna experience.

Sauna World

For €65 per person, visitors can access Sauna World without needing to purchase a ticket to the main park.

The experience includes:

  • Access to six different saunas
Sauna World
  • Three pools to enjoy:
    • A hot tub
    • A jacuzzi
    • A cold pool

  • A Finnish tapas plate featuring local flavors
  • One free beverage

The Sauna World was beautifully designed and provided a perfect blend of relaxation and Finnish tradition. I highly recommend this for anyone seeking a peaceful escape during their Lapland visit.

And if you have bigger kids, I would let kid’s to enjoy the park area and take Sauna World for my self on mean-time. Park area is fenced down, so no need to fear that kids get lost in the forest. (But this is at your own risk.)

Dining Options

The park’s restaurant offered a warm and inviting atmosphere, with a lunch buffet priced at €32 per person. (€22 for kids)

The menu featured a variety of Lappish dishes, which were delicious and well-prepared.

We could have also ordered from the menu, but lunch buffet was looking so good, that it served us well. You can pre-order lunch buffet from GetYourGuide*

A Work in Progress

This years poorly early-season snow conditions impacted some aspects of the park. For example, there were no snow or ice sculptures yet, and the snow slide could have been steeper.

However, the staff were incredibly friendly and clearly committed to improving and expanding the park as the season progresses. I highly believe that this park is going to be a big hit.

We spend in total of 4 hours in the park (just 2 adults), and I imagine that with kids you could easily spend much more time in there.

Final Thoughts

Lapland Winter Park is an excellent choice for families, couples, or groups looking to enjoy the magic of a Lappish winter.

Whether you’re seeking adrenaline-pumping activities or peaceful relaxation, this park has something for everyone. With its friendly staff and ongoing improvements, I am excited to see how it develops throughout the season.

If you’re visiting Rovaniemi, be sure to add Lapland Winter Park to your itinerary – and don’t miss the Sauna World!
