If you’re looking for an unforgettable husky adventure in Rovaniemi, Bearhill Husky is the place to go. From the moment I arrived, it was clear that the dogs here live better lives than most humans! I have visited there once before years ago, and I remember it was really good already back then, just smaller. Dogs well-being is a priority, and you can see it in the way they’re cared for—like family members.
Respect for Working Dogs
One of the most remarkable things I learned is that Bearhill Husky retires their dogs early, ensuring they find loving homes where they can enjoy a well-deserved retirement. These dogs are athletes, working dogs, and the team emphasized that they don’t need pity—just admiration for their strength and vitality. It was heartening to see the pride and respect the staff have for the dogs’ well-being throughout their lives. I imagine retiring the dogs early adds more work for the team, but it’s clearly the best choice for the dogs’ health and happiness. Some of the retired dogs still live out their best lives at the kennel, even into old age, just no longer working.
A Happy and Passionate Team
The staff were incredibly friendly and happy to share their personal experiences. It’s clear that they love what they do, and their enthusiasm is infectious. Everyone there seemed genuinely happy, not only with their job but with the entire environment they’ve created for both workers and animals.
A Natural and Spacious Environment
Bearhill is located ‘in the middle of nowhere’, surrounded by stunning wilderness. It’s the perfect setting for the huskies to run and thrive. They even have huge enclosed areas in the forest, allowing the dogs to run freely—basically a massive dog park in the middle of nature. They also had a running mill, where the dogs could exercise even more.
Exceeding Standards and Building for the Future
Everything at the kennel was spotless, from the dog enclosures to the grounds. It was clear that they go above and beyond Finnish animal welfare regulations. The new buildings under construction looked beautiful, blending perfectly with the natural surroundings.
Unfortunately, the day was too hot (+20 something celsius) for a husky ride, but I’ve heard from many people that their trails are always great, and the experience is unforgettable in cooler conditions.
Overall, Bearhill Husky offers not just an amazing husky safari but also an inspiring look into how well these incredible animals can be treated. If you’re in Rovaniemi, and you are looking for ethical husky ride, Bearhill is way to go.
